Seabirds are birds that are adapted to life within the marine environment. New Zealand is considered the seabird capital of the world because of the diversity of seabirds on our waters including the 96 types that breed here.
New Zealand’s seabirds include penguins, albatrosses, shearwaters, petrels, shags, prions, gannets and skuas.

Over the last couple of years the Northern NZ Seabird Trust has been conducting a Buller's Shearwater survey to estimate population numbers on the Poor Knights Islands. I have been lucky enough to be able to help them out for a couple of trips, staying on Tawhiti Rahi looking at the seabirds.
The Poor Knights Islands are a protected nature reserve and you must has a permit to land. The Northern NZ Seabird Trust holds a permit that allows them to land and stay on the islands for their monitoring and surveys.

Inspired by the work of Cancer Society Auckland Northland Division and wanted to support them by raising money as part of our participation in 2018 ASB Auckland Marathon. Our aim was to raise $3,000 between us and get more people that know about Cancer Society. After finishing the race, we couldn't believe the amount of support and generosity we received, reaching over $3,500.
